Examination of the female breast at the Centre for Mamma Diagnostics
Mammography is an examination of the breast involving a slight compression and application of X-rays. It is performed on the advice or referral of a family doctor or a gynaecologist, e.g. in case of breast pain, palpable nodes, unclear skin lesions or swelling of the armpits (curative mammography). At our Centre for Mamma Diagnostics (ZfM) we have two digital mammography scanners and medical staff specially trained in performing mammography at our disposal.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast
Magnetic resonance imaging of the breastThis breast examination by means of an MRI scanner is applied in the following cases: for differentiation of unclear breast changes after performing mammography or sonography, for follow-up breast examinations for breast cancer, for breast examinations prior to breast cancer surgery. The examination is painless and radiation-free. As a rule, it is necessary to administer a contrast agent for a better depiction of the breast tissue. The costs of this examination will not be covered by all health insurances.
Breast ultrasound (mamma sonography)
This examination of the breast is carried out without the use of X-rays. It is suitable as an examination that is supplementary to mammography, an examination of women with dense breast tissue and young or pregnant women. At our Centre for Mamma Diagnostics (ZfM) we have several sonography devices with high-frequency transducers for optimal structure resolution at our disposal.
Punch biopsy of the breast
For clarification of unclear structural changes of the breast it can be reasonable to perform a breast puncture. A breast tissue sample is gained under local anaesthesia, and then it can be analysed in detail in the laboratory. The puncture is carried out under ultrasound control.
In this region, the costs of the curative mammography, mammography screening and breast ultrasound are covered by the statutory and private health insurances. In addition to the described methods, we carry out the following examinations in our practice:
